You know...people are always complaining about Yen's behavior after the Triss debacle, and warranted...because she's big time mad and she's displacing it on Geralt and she shouldn't...but if you haven't read the books then lemme back my baby up for a moment okay?
Before Triss takes advantage of Geralt, Yen and Geralt are living together. They are in love, they are happy, they have a home--they're practically married--and then shit hits the fan. So, they're finally getting some domestic bliss TOGETHER only to have to deal with kidnapping, and poisoning and then they BOTH end up with amnesia (that's right, in the books it happened to her too). They're both separated and not of their right minds and while Geralt has it harder, Yennefer went through some shit too.
Now, picture that you come out of your amnesia, and all you want is to find your soul mate again, make sure he's okay, and be with him, only to be told he's in love with someone else. And not just ANY someone else, okay? Someone she considers to be one of her best friends. So, after this horrific ordeal, and literally DROPPING EVERYTHING TO TRY TO FIND GERALT THE MOMENT SHE REMEMBERS, she's told that never mind, he's in love with someone else, leave him alone.
Would you not be mad too?!
Like, the book doesn't handle any of the Triss fallout the way that it should, and yeah, even in the games Yen's throwing shit off cliffs and portalling Geralt into the ocean, but come on. She's absolutely gutted. HEARTBROKEN. She should have taken it out on Triss, but she didn't know what was going on until Geralt finally got his memories back and did the same thing: went looking for her.
So, give my baby a break.
Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk...

For anyone actually wondering, my portrayal of Yennefer includes the following from her sources to make her who I write her as.
Tumblr media
The Books:
Her mother was the half elf and her father was so upset about the elven blood making their child deformed that he took it out on her verbally and physically, and then after he finally left, Yennefer's mother started abusing her until Tissaia took her off her hands.
Tried to kill herself in Aretuza.
Tissaia ordered her transformation and was the one that took away her ability to have kids and didn't tell her about it--Yennefer did not ask for that stuff on her own, but she was more than okay being beautiful and feared after the life she had with her parents. Also, honestly, she wanted to be better than the bullies she had, like Sabrina.
Hates politics, but deals with it when she has to.
Quit Aretuza over failing to save a child, and she will protect all children at all costs, especially female ones. Kids are her weak spot.
Lets Ciri crawl into bed with her when she has nightmares.
Will go feral over Ciri and Geralt on any ocassion.
Is a bit possessive of Geralt, but prolly not entirely to the extent of the books where he leaves over it a couple times, but I attribute some of that to the fact that I do believe Andre doesn't always know how to write women and keep them in character when he just wants drama for drama in the novels.
Has no issues doing necromancy, even though it's a dark art, but she mostly only does it to try and find Ciri.
Ciri is her child and she refers to her as such.
Has a pet Kestrel.
Witcher 3 Game:
Portals people and things off waterfalls when she's mad.
Has a unique bond with ravens.
I feel like this list is short, but the Games were so good at incorporating more of her Book attitude already, so Witcher 3 is just part of her because I liked it. Not a perfect adaptation, of course, but I enjoyed Yennefer, so...
Netflix:
Anya is her face claim.
She's older than 13 when she becomes a sorceress (that's how old she was in the books when Tissaia sterilizied her), but prolly admittedly not as old as Netflix has her doing everything.
Yen and Jaskier bonding/friendship.
Netflix has its own verse and it is only in the Netflix version of stuff that I will accept the Deathless Mother as she is Netflix only created. I will also only RP that fallout with the modifications I made over it, which is in a different post.
My Own Flushed Out Headcanons For Her:
Will hold Triss accountable for r*ping Geralt, and does not forgive her just because they're 'sisters' and 'good friends'.
Because of this, Yennefer tries really hard not to manipulate Geralt in any way. She already did after they started a relationship try to only read his mind occasionally, but after the Triss stuff she has a much harder time doing stuff. She's self aware, okay?
Does on some level blame Tissaia for what she has lost, but sees her as a mother and does feel indebted to her for everything she gained from becoming a sorceress.
Is still the 'horseman of war', and I feel like I'll flush that out more later because she's not the actual horseman, but it's a book thing.
She's a bitch sometimes, but she's a soft Mom to the people that she loves, even if sometimes she's loving in a tough love approach.
If you ever have any other questions, feel free to ask, and not be a dick about it, like the anon in my inbox right now. I have said multiple times that my Yennefer in her main state is a MIX of all of her sources. She is mine, and I am feral about her, and I get to portray her however the fuck I want to. I'm sorry I'm one of maybe 5 active Yen's, but you don't get to tell me how to write my muses.
I'm also sure I'll update this occasionally, but yeah.

I love that Yen literally throws the bed Triss liked off the mountainside. All that stuff happened with Triss and Geralt (which still bothers me because Geralt was taken advantage of) and in the middle of trying to reverse a curse, Yen's just like, "And the bed can go off the cliff..." I love her.

Piggy-backing off my last post about how I'm tweaking S3 for Yennefer, I decided to go into a little more depth like I did with some of my other posts about my other Season tweaks for my Netflix version of Yennefer, which contrary to popular belief is NOT my main Yennefer verse even though I use Anya as Yen's face claim. I am mixed media Yen always, and you may always ask me to use icons of her from the games because I have those too. That being said, lets breakdown Season Three:
Because she never actually tried to sacrifice Ciri to the Deathless Mother, her strained relationship with Geralt is mostly over how she's going about teaching Ciri because she pushes a bit too hard, and also over trying to mend the fact that even though she didn't try to sacrifice Ciri, she did separate Ciri from Geralt while she was still being coerced by the Deathless Mother no matter how she was trying to resist her, so there still is broken trust, it's just not something that they can't get over.
While she has been trying to get this whole mom thing right, Yennefer and Ciri butting heads at Aretuza was perfection. They did a great job given that Ciri is older in Netflix than she was in the books, and it was just wonderful. Yen will sacrifice literally anything for Ciri, and that includes her dignity, and so I'm keeping that most definitely.
YEN SAID 'I LOVE YOU' BACK AT THANEDD. They took this from me, and it's one of the main things I was looking forward to this season because 'Time of Contempt' is their first verbally exchanged 'I love you', and I'm so mad the show didn't let Yen say it back. Yes, she made it clear she loves him at the end of the Season, but I'm salty about it.
She didn't leave Ciri to go and try and save Aretuza and Tissaia. I get why Netflix had her do it, but my Yen doesn't have the same relationship with Tissaia because hers is closer to their book relationship. Because of that, she stayed with Ciri and Geralt, and they were all forcibly separated from each other. This would make Yennefer be the one to find Geralt in the water (and mirror a very specific book scene), and still have to spread herself thin trying to find Ciri as well.
Yennefer still feels a bit of guilt in feeling like if Geralt sees her and she doesn't have Ciri, then she failed him, but not enough to keep her away. The only thing that makes sense is she's trying to find Ciri, but that doesn't mean she wouldn't be checking in on him as he heals if she can because the girl can portal: she can do both things and she should have.
Oh, and one of the most important things: Yennefer did not help to form the Lodge of Sorceresses. In the books, she didn't want a part of it, and was only brought on by Francesca, only to then have to tell them all to shove it up their asses because they wanted to hand Ciri over to Emhyr. Phillipa was one of the founders and I'm still confused as to why they had Yen do it instead, but it all boils down to them making Tissaia more important to Yen than she is. I'm sorry, but my Yen will not be picking Tissaia over Geralt and Ciri--it makes no character sense to me to do so.
Anything else I think of, I'll add later.

Once again I find myself thinking about my version of Yennefer, and what she would do in her Netflix verse, and I just can't see her leaving Geralt and Ciri voluntarily, just because Tissaia is in trouble. I understand that the Netflix version was really focusing on the mother/daughter relationships, but in the books this isn't the case. Yennefer respects Tissaia, but she does somewhat blame her for sterilizing her, and for the abuse she sustained in Aretuza, and she has never looked at her directly as her 'mother'. Not the way Ciri looks at Yennefer. So, I can't in good conscience, see Yennefer dropping everything when it comes to CIRI. When it would come to her, Ciri and Geralt being separated again. So no, I don't see her running to Tissaia. I see her and Ciri and Geralt being forcibly separated, and she'll end up with Tissaia, but when Ciri is the most important person in her life, in what universe would she ever leave her when she's still in danger? Oh...she wouldn't...so my version of her, is just gonna have to be separated by force, to put all three of them on their separate paths again. Also they just wanted to give Triss something to do when easily Yennefer could have had him in her arms to mirror a similar moment in the books, devoting his potential last moments to her being there with him...but I digress...

Lemme scream about Yen and Ciri for a minute on main, okay?
Yen and Ciri in the books is so important to me, because even though they misstep in the beginning, and Yen works Ciri to the bone trying to train her (making Nenneke have to step in), Ciri absolutely just wants to be around her. They bond almost immediately, and Ciri starts climbing into Yen's bed with her and Yen holds her to chase the nightmares away.
Ciri calls Yen 'mama' and Yen refers to Ciri as her daughter pretty early on. They call each other that, they refer to each other as that to other people, and you can pry each other away from each other maybe--prolly not, because Yen would rather die. It's extra precious, to be honest, because Ciri hasn't had a mother figure since she lost Calanthe, and Yen in the books actually had her choice to be a mother completely stripped from her. There was no removal of a uterus, but Aretuza deliberately hid that the mages were being sterilized from them, so that they would grow dependent on the Brotherhood and the Brotherhood alone for loyalty.
So, you have two people who very much need each other, becoming everything to each other. Yen is literally ready to die for Ciri, but only under the condition that Ciri would be okay without her. She also is always rabidly ready for violence should anyone threaten Ciri. Goes even as far as to be somewhat okay with necromancy when it comes to finding Ciri, which goes a very long way in showing what lengths she would go to, for her child, and since this isn't about Geralt, I'll scream about the lengths she's willing to go for for him later.
As things progress, and they're separated and reunited, and everything, Ciri goes as far as to choose her own last name. She rejects the last name everyone wants to give her, and chooses to be 'Cirilla of Vengerberg, Daughter of Yennefer'. Ciri wants everyone to know that Yennefer is her mother, and that she is proud of that. Her own biological father even notices it and at Yennefer's begging, decides against his want of the prophecy child, and lets Ciri go to be with her true parents.
Why do I get rabid about it? Because her relationship with Yennefer is held as high if not higher than her relationship with Geralt in the books, and it's barely shown in the games, but we do get good stuff. Having it, even in the Netflix format, is INCREDIBLE. I love that we're finally getting to see it, and it's not erased or fully in the background. This is everything. I don't care what context it is in it, I just want everything they will give me, and I know it's going to hurt, because we're heading out of Time of Contempt, and that means splitting up again, but I just...I just wanted all of this.
Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk.

What Shape Does Your Pain Take
Tumblr media
Flowers
Your pain takes the shape of flowers, or something else beautiful and free. You can't help but see what you don't have in the beautiful thing, can't help but feel pain as you see what you're missing out on. Maybe you even wish that you could just be happy and surround yourself in flowers, but you can't, because each time you see them it's like a reminder of the empty hole you carry.
They say that pain is beauty... Right?

Sinday Headcanons - @taleswritten mused: "👄, 🛏️, ❤️‍🔥" - for yen!
Tumblr media
👄 do they prefer oral or penetrative sex more?: Tough question because I feel like she's a very penetrative type of girl, in that that is mostly what she gets/receives, and that sometimes she's selfish and she wants the release because she's had few pleasures in life. However, especially with Geralt, she would absolutely give him head just to 'take care of him', and tell him that's exactly why she's blowing him and to just hush and let her work instead of question it, so...prefer? I think it's a situation type thing, because if she's in a certain mood, she doesn't even need to get off, she just needs her partner to.
🛏️what’s their favorite position?: I think the exact position is partner dependent, but Yen overall likes to be on top. Of her men...of the unicorn (I couldn't resist), and so cowgirl/reverse cowgirl for sure. However, with Geralt, it's lotus always. She'll take missionary even with him (you call it boring, she calls it intimate), but lotus gets her on top AND gives her the eye contact she craves, with the added bonus of getting to have his arms around her.
❤️‍🔥what’s their most erogenous zone?: NECK! I know I just said that with my whole chest, but just, yes. Bite her. Leave hickeys. Other than giving her apple juice, messing with her neck is a sure fire way to get her to do what you want. Her nipples count as the second (I know you didn't ask), but for sexual partners only, lol.

Never forget that book!Yen had her deformities taken away because TISSIA demanded it. She needed Yennefer to become beautiful so that she had another Sorceress that was molded by her, to be sought after by the courts...so when you wanna argue that Yennefer just wanted power and beauty, just know that book!Yen really did get made sterile because someone else willed that of her. Granted Yen was also 13 in the books when that happened to her though, so...do we really blame her for wanting to find a way to get her fertility back when she was old enough to want a child?!?

Just a Quick Yennefer PSA: Most of you that interacted with me when Yen was on @lilackissed already know this, but: my Yennefer is always going to be, first and foremost, a mixed media portrayal of Yennefer. I read the books first, got into the games second, and then watched Netflix third, and won't be watching past Season 3 for my own personal reasons. I stand by that the original author had little idea how to write a woman like her, dealing with infertility and her very prominent mother/daughter relationship with Ciri that sometimes had cringey dialogue, and how cold =/= unfeeling, etc., but Lauren absolutely doesn't know as she's changed key parts of Yennefer from the original source material more than the games, that are their own interpretation of Yen at best but so much better handled. So, I have taken so much painstaking time to comb through all her media two, three times, and flushed her out so much that she is her own thing. If you are looking for a specific version of her, I am not it. This Yen is not it. This Yen has been loved and fiercely protected by me for a long time and I'm open to criticisms, of course, but I will never play her in any way other than how I have bonded with her. That goes for a few of my canon characters here, but specifically for Yen. I just wanted to say it with all the new stuff coming out.

Modern!Yen makes Geralt watch Shark Week with her. She and Ciri make shark themed snacks, and keep the TV on Discovery Channel until it's all over. Only reprieve he gets is bad shark movies. The side effect, is Yennefer decides every year she extra hates the dark abyss of the oceans, because we need to respect powerful creatures. Pry this headcanon from my cold, dead fingers...

I had this headcanon on Yen's solo blog, but I wanted to address it now that Netflix has taken the whole "my ugly one" thing from the books so: my Yen has always called Ciri "my little duck" or some version of that.
Now, this has been something that was debated a bit because of you know, translating the Witcher into English, from Polish, because it has long since been explained that in the Polish version, what Yennefer calls Ciri is actually an ENDEARMENT. However, there was no clear translation of that endearment into English and it became "my ugly one" and "my ugly duckling" in different versions. The way I interpreted it from there most of the time, is tied to the whole ‘Ugly Duckling’ analogy. What I mean by that is that Ciri is someone who is feared and thought of as different and "ugly"--and abomination, if you will--and because of the Elder Blood inside of her that most see as a "taint", they usually refer to her and her blood as something truly awful. What happens at the end of that tale, however? The Ugly Ducking turns into a SWAN.
Then you think about how, the meaning of a swan is grace, beauty, love, trust, and loyalty. Swan symbolism is pretty relevant here too, because it is also linked to inner beauty and self love, and a pair of swans represent soul mates for life. So, when Yennefer calls Ciri versions of a ‘duckling’, that’s what she’s referring to. She’s referring to the beauty and power inside of Ciri, and in a little bit of a way, she’s referring to herself as a swan as well, because she thinks of Ciri as her own child, and of herself as a once "ugly duckling" before she came into her own. Yennefer absolutely loves and trusts Ciri, and is loyal to her above all else. They are two powerful and beautiful women that were once thought of as weapons and monsters and the like, who found each other and bonded on a mother/daughter level–found where they belonged together. It’s why that part in Witcher 3 when Yen tells Ciri, ‘my you grew up beautiful’, hits me right in the feels…every. single. time.
But yes, even with Netflix doing the whole "my ugly one", it's just a hard habit to break after almost 4 years of writing Yen on here, because the voice I've found for her doesn't slip into that. Because of that, I felt the need to make sure that this was somewhere on this blog.

Sometimes, I'm reminded that Yennefer was 13 in the books when she became a sorceress, and it really makes me feel bad before because like...she was a child, and already had been abused by her parents and put through the sorceress training. At the same time, Yennefer was written to semi mirror Geralt, so who better to raise Ciri than the two people who went through such traumatic childhoods, who never want to let Ciri go through similar, even though that's out of their control? I just...I just love Yen so much...
